Building Piers, Finishing Roof, Bathroom Walls, and Plumbing

We've been really busy the past couple of weeks and finding time to write a blog post has been difficult so there is a lot to show!

First, the roof is finished! We went with a red metal roof and we love it! We plan on doing rain collection so this will be perfect to catch water and it looks good too.

Cutting the last piece carefully!

Such a wonderful feeling to know there is a finished roof!
Next, we started on piers to give the house more stability and to handle the weight. Plus, it makes me feel better knowing there is something there to keep us from rolling on down the road in the middle of the night.  Not that it would happen but you can't be too safe.  Another friend from church came to help dig holes and pour cement for the piers.

It takes many supervisors to dig a hole. My son even said he was getting tired just watching our friend dig.

Still removing granite rocks. New Hampshire is the granite state for a reason.

Mixing the cement with fresh swamp water

Wait 24 hours for cement to set then....
Piers are finished with cement blocks. Next year we will probably add rock to the piers
The next step is to start paneling so that we can cut out the electrical boxes, plumbing, and LPG connections. A great invention was the SharkBite connections for plumbing.  Even though it is a small area to plumb my husband was able to do all the rough in plumbing in one evening.  It was so convenient to use this type of connections and nice to have something that was quick and easy.
First paneling put up...will use a router to cut out the window space

Since we have a roof we moved a lot of stuff inside to keep dry from the rain

Installing plumbing for bathroom shower and tub on the outside of tiny house
Beginning of shower/tub kit and the washer box installed and plumbed

Right now we are preparing for an electrician to come by and show us how things need to be wired to meet local codes.  My next blog will cover setting up the solar, putting a new finish on the Craigslist woodstove and cleaning up the Craigslist gutters.  Feels great to start installing our Craigslist finds and not storing them away.

Finally, my latest free Craigslist find, a propane dryer.  It's not beautiful but it works and if I ever want to make it look newer I can use some white appliance paint and give it an update. For now, it will stay the retro "Harvest Gold".  We plan on using this in a shed/ hoophouse and keep the washer in the tiny house.
