"You Formed My Inward Parts"

Psalm 139:13-16  For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

This blog posting is one of my first.  I can't help but think of Psalm 139:13-16 when I write this posting.
Last night my son and I had a intimate discussion about the word "abortion".  We heard it at church yesterday and right then and there he said, "What is ahortion?", yes he said it with an "h".  I whispered in his ear, "Basically a woman is pregnant and they want to get rid of the baby."  His reply, "Oh, so not divorce?" "No, not divorce." I told him that I would explain it more to him at home when could talk more about it.

I couldn't help but have tears in my eyes during this time.  My son asked about a subject that brings an overwhelming amount of emotion to me.  Frustration, anger, sadness, and a prayerful spirit. I pray for the babies that have lost their lives and I know God is holding them.

Later that evening he brings up the abortion subject again while we are working together making some yummy brownies to have with our ice cream.  I am so thankful that he spends his time at church and home with us so that we can provide him the answers to his questions.  Even more thankful that he isn't somewhere asking these questions to a more secular environment that would tell him it is okay to murder because it is a woman's choice.

I am going to give you a play by play of our conversation.

"Mom, will you explain to me this ahortion thing?"
"Yes son I will but it is actually abortion.  Have you ever heard the expression, 'Abort the mission?' from TV shows and books"
"Yes"
"Okay, what does that mean to you?"
"It means to stop the mission."
"Exactly! So that word comes from abort. So abortion means to stop the pregnancy. In order to do so the woman who is pregnant must have the baby killed." (This part was very hard for me but it is Truth)
"Who does this?"
"The woman goes to the doctor and lets them know she no longer wants to be pregnant with a baby."
"Why?"
"Most women have been told and some believe that it is a problem to have children in their lives.  They think because they are pregnant their "lives" are ruined and they can't live out their dreams."
"We are not a problem!! You just have to do mom and dad things.  We aren't that much of a problem are we?"
"No, son, you are not. "
"How does the doctor do this?"
"Well, he goes inside the mom and kills the baby."
"Yeah, but how?"
"With certain tools."
"Does the mom keep carrying the baby or does she have it?"
"No, the doctor takes it out of her."
"Is killing not against the law?"
"Yes it is. Especially God's law."
"So killing people is against the law?"
"Yes."
"Killing babies isn't?"
"No. You want to know something even crazier than that? We have laws that protect animals more than they protect babies."
"Well that needs to be flip flopped! So does the doctor ask the woman if she wants to do this?"
"Yes sometimes. Sometimes the woman just goes and wants it done."
"Did your doctor ask you?"
"No.  If he did I would have walked out and never went back.  I wanted you and God wanted me to have you. I am so glad He gave us you."
"Me too!  I am so glad that you had me and didn't get rid of me."
"The thought NEVER entered my mind."
"Can I go watch that show with dad about the big wild hogs?"
"Yes (with a smile) you can go watch the wild hogs."

I peek around the corner and I see before me my 6 year old, soon to be 7, sitting on his dad's lap watching a show about wild hogs. This child amazes me everyday! As a child he understands that abortion is wrong.  I know why Jesus loves his children so much because they are a true joy to our lives. This little baby, now a boy, has changed my life. I may not be living out what man would portray as a "dream" but this is God's plan and it is perfect in every way. I could never dream up something this wonderful.  Our choice to home school, to live frugally, to give more than receive, and to follow God's will is not about me or my husband.  It is about God's glory and for my son to spread that glory to his children and the grandchildren.

John 16:21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.
