Getting Back to Posting our Homeschool Life

Enjoying the warm weather at Seacoast Science Center, Portsmouth, NH

It has been a few months since I have added any blogs or lesson plans due to summer vacation time.  We are starting back in the habit of doing a few "school like" things for the morning and then exploring and other things for the rest of the day.  The more I learn about the word school and its origin the more I dislike it.  Anyway, that is a topic for another day.

I have decided to make one document to be opened with what I have planned for the whole week and it will be in a PDF format so it will be easy to open and view. I will post this as soon as my techy husband can show me how to put a PDF attachment in this document :)

Take note, I am not a traditional textbook homeschooling type. So don't expect a lot of textbook curriculum lesson plans.  I actually did a quiz to find out what type I was and I sort of already knew but I wanted to confirm.  If your interested here is a link to the 5 Homeschooling Styles. After doing this quiz, I am a Charlotte Mason type with a close second in unschooling type. My background is that of a public school teacher using Unit Studies, researching and having our son go through Montessori around age 4, to teaching at a Classical school, to now the Charlotte Mason method with unschooling.  The Charlotte Mason method has been the best so far for my son and I. Does this mean this style will work for everyone? Absolutely not! That is the best thing about homeschooling you can teach your own with knowing you have that freedom.  I would never force anyone to teach the way I teach.  You know your child and your own personality to know what will work best.  Which is the problem with large schooling.  Each child doesn't get the gift of learning that best suits them and are pretty much forced to try to learn in the environment they are forced to be in for 8 hours a day.  By the way, right now it takes us maybe 1-2 hours per day and we are free to learn, explore, serve others, field trips, visit people, chores, and so much more.

I will continue to post when I can throughout the week of our activities, lessons, how to's, and anything else that we might think will be helpful to those that have already made the decision to homeschool or those beginning this amazing journey!!  If you have any questions please feel free to send me a message and I will help in anyway that I can.
