Music and Picture Study

For the next few weeks I will be using a book I got from the local library called Leonardo da Vinci for kids for our picture study, drawings, and history.  This book is well written for children but also very detailed.  I read aloud to Adrian for about 10 minutes and then he will tell me what remembers, opinions, and anything else about what I just read.  Recently his favorite part was at the beginning when Leonardo's mom was frightened that a hawk was going to get him out of his cradle.

After reading through the first chapter or so of the book Adrian has started to want to sketch different things in nature, toys, people, etc.

It looks like I am going to have to buy him some sketching notebooks.  He grabbed a free notepad we got in the mail and wanted it for his sketching notebook.

We will be using various pieces of artwork for our picture study.  For example, the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci. I will give Adrian about a minute to study the picture.  I do not ask him questions or disturb him during this time.  Then I will cover the picture and ask him to tell me everything he remembers about the picture.  It is pretty neat all the things a child sees that we as adults will miss.  Sometimes I will have him do the same to me.  From doing this I notice that Adrian will see many details in pictures, in his environment, and other places that would normally get looked over.  Plus, it is showing in his drawings when he wants to add minor details to his pictures.
